Miscellaneous Adventures

Greetings! Please forgive me for my lack of postings this past week, I’ve been enjoying a few adventures and hadn’t time to write a proper post. Last weekend was spent in San Diego - lots of sight seeing, family visiting, and fun-having.

First, Aubrey, Elly, and myself ventured to Balboa Park, where Aubrey almost got eaten by a shark and Elly noticed that the shark teeth were bigger than her! After nearly becoming shark food, we visited my aunt and uncle who have the pretty view in the bottom left photo above. We also visited the zoo, where Elly demanded we take lots of pictures of all the elephants (real and fake).

We even spent a day with A’s mom and ventured to the Maritime Museum of San Diego. We enjoyed our hand at ‘steering’ the ship, and Elly decided it would be more fun to fire a canon. We were also given this most exquisite sunset.

Of course, no adventure is complete without delicious food. First, I had a little too much fun picking citrus from my aunt and uncle’s fruit trees. Then my uncle made us the best guacamole. Ever. I also ate a delicious burger from In-N-Out. I was so excited to eat it, I neglected the before photo. Back in LA, we went to Diddy Riese, a fantastically brilliant cookie shop where you get the most delicious ice cream sandwiches in the existence of the universe. Best part? They’re only $1.50 each. For real.

Monday & Exploration

Happy Monday! I’m feeling ridiculously giddy today because my school semester is finally over and this time next week I shall be in sunny Los Angeles! I had a nice relaxing weekend filled with some of my favorite things: parents, puppies, Emily, tea, yummy food, and presents. It was nice for that since I’ll be in California for a whole month.

Emily and I went on a date to Michael’s and I found these travel related stickers, so I created my own little adventure on one of my notebooks. Above is what travel means to me, adventure is necessary to live a happy life (in my opinion).

Los Angeles Fun

Even though my LA trip was for a symposium, I couldn’t refuse having some fun around the city and exploring. No trip to LA is complete without going to the ArcLight, so I saw Captain America with a friend, which also means we walked down the block to eat fish n’ chips (with a glass of Strongbow) at The Cat & Fiddle.

On Sunday, I finally visited LACMA, and viewed the Tim Burton exhibit. I was happy, because I had missed it when it came to MoMA. It was amazing. I can’t even describe how fantastic it was, pretty overwhelming at times. There’s just SO much to see! There were a lot of items from his films, too. Some Batman suits, a whole room dedicated to Nightmare Before Christmas, and so many of his own personal drawings and things that he drew inspiration from. Burton is definitely a talented man, no one can deny that. The exhibit runs until October 31, 2011, so if you’re in the LA area, I’d definitely go check it out. I also finally saw Urban Light (photo below) up close and personal, too. After going by it countless times when I lived there, it was wonderful to walk amongst all the lampposts. It took a lot of willpower to restrain myself from pulling a Don Lockwood and swinging around one of them (insert wink).

Monday was filled with a nice, relaxing picnic and stroll in Griffith Park. It’s fantastic when you know people, no adventure completed alone! Then I stubbornly made my way to good ol’ LAX to fly back home (insert many pouts). Until next time, Los Angeles (& Santa Monica), I miss you already.
